There was a great post by David recently at Webby Online. David lists himself as an Internet Entrepreneur and he was on the search for suitable support for his business. He'd done the usual search in places such as elance.com and had to work through a number of rather varied bids but then came across vanetworking.com and placed an RFP there. He actually explained what things meant, even what a VA is and then the processes he went through. He has now found a VA who 'has a real penchant for … [Read more...]
Working In The Front Line
I'm a firm believer that it's important to get involved in local community and local groups. Even as a virtual operator, there is still the need to get to know local business people and others around me. Not all my business has to come from online methods and it's true that there are people down the road or around the corner who could also use my services. But how do I let them know I'm here? I join a local networking group. Currently it's the local Chamber of Commerce but in the past it has … [Read more...]
Let Them See The Benefits!
I was having a morning tea a few days ago with some of my team. It's always good to get together with a few at a time to enjoy a cuppa and cake, and a good old-fashioned chat face-to-face. We all have families at different stages of life and it's fun to share ideas and compare how we manage things. My kids are older than that of the ladies that were there that day so I was able to talk about things that took place during their teen years, as my business was developing and opportunities arose. … [Read more...]
Getting Paid To Write For A Year?
If you're like me then the subject for this post would sound like a dream! And it does to me. I love to write and get nowhere near enough time to write as much as I like. And frequently I come across items I'd like to write here for our industry and if I don't quickly write it down, the idea is lost again as I concentrate on my work throughout the day. So, I've entered this competition and invite you to vote for this blog. If I were fortunate enough to win it would allow me to spend time … [Read more...]
Any VAs in Japan?
My husband and I are planning our next trip. We have a daughter working in Nagaoka in Japan and so we're going over to visit her for a couple of weeks Aug/Sept. I'm wondering if there are any VAs in Japan that I could meet whilst I'm there. We're planning to also visit Tokyo, Kyoto and hopefully take in a day of the world athletics in Osaka. If you know of any VAs in Japan, please do encourage them to make contact with me as I would love to meet them. When we travelled to Ireland, UK and … [Read more...]
Sponsorships – Exposure For Your Business
I was driving to a breakfast today not far from home. It's Saturday and normally I wouldn't be going out, especially not early in the morning - it's my day for relaxing at home but this breakfast was special because I was a sponsor for the event. Sponsorship is often an overlooked opportunity for gaining exposure for your business. Whenever people hear that word they immediately think $$ - lots of it - and dismiss the idea but it really is one worth considering. Not all sponsorships require … [Read more...]
MSNBC Highlights VA Industry
Exciting news this morning! Messages from across the sea have told us how Karen Reddick, a Colorado VA had been interviewed for the MSNBC Today Show. This is great exposure for our industry and highlights how we can support clients without having to physically meet them face-to-face. Karen talks about this in the interview. I encourage you to watch it yourself to see how VAs can help people with their admin needs all around the world! And congratulations Karen on the interview - we're all … [Read more...]
Blogging For VAs
Have you noticed all the different communities available now for bloggers? So many places to list your blog to attract visitors and readers, or dare I say it? Fans. Particularly since I've been hanging around LinkedIn I've been learning about other places to list my blogs, and to mix and mingle with other bloggers. LinkedIn has a bloggers discussion group and I've learnt heaps from them. If you missed my post on Linked in, then please go and read it now. Going back to the blogging … [Read more...]
Well, it’s over…
... for another year that is! All those months of planning and preparation, contacting people, pulling together groups of volunteers, lining up speakers and topics, updating the website, the amazing 45 day blog hopping tour and so much more. A team of dedicated (and probably rather crazy) Virtual Assistants have just pulled off the second annual Online International Virtual Assistants Convention with even bigger bang than last year. One of the highlights had to be Fran Capo who delighted … [Read more...]
