Today was one of those days I'd like to start all over again, but that's just not possible. The morning started out ok until I rebooted my computer as I hadn't done it the night before (my usual nightly ritual). That's when the day came unstuck. My computer got into an eternal loop trying to start back up again and got stuck consistently at the same spot and kept trying again. I've experienced similar before so decided to power down the computer and let it sit for awhile before starting it … [Read more...]
When the Client Doesn’t Understand
Not everyone understands how to use a Virtual Assistant or what a VA can do for them. I get asked regularly what kind of business I'm in and when I tell them I'm a Virtual Assistant I get asked the normal question 'what's that?' And then when I explain that for me, it means being like a personal assistant, only virtual, briefly their face shows their unspoken question which is soon voiced. They can't even begin to perceive how we (VAs) receive the work or get it back to the client if we don't … [Read more...]
Out of Sight, Out of Mind
We were having a discussion on our VA forum the other day and one of the newer VAs spoke of the challenge she was having in getting her business up and running. There were a lot of things demanding her attention and it was a busy time in her life but she was concerned that she might be losing focus and sought ideas from the group for things that she could be doing. Which was a good thing to do as many of us have 'been there' and were able to advise what we did to keep us moving forward. When … [Read more...]
Reader’s Digest article about VAs
Recently I've had a number of people in the US fill out the form on my VA Trainer website and in the 'where did you find us' field they entered 'magazine' or 'Reader's Digest'. I wasn't aware a new article had come out about my business so went in search of the article to find out what it was all about. The article had escaped my radar! It was, in fact, an article about ways to earn money at home and they profiled the VA industry, and interviewed Diana Ennen in the process. Congratulations … [Read more...]
More on Top Aussie Bloggers
Further to my recent post about the Top 100 Aussie Blogs list, The Age (Melbourne Newspaper) has an article out today - page 9 I'm told, but it's also available online about Aussie bloggers. Worth checking out the links they have attached to the article. http://blogpond.wordpress.com/top-100-australian-blogs-index/ and http://problogger.net/ I wonder if this means Australia is now regarded as 'coming of age' with blogging? What got me about the article was their reference about 'an … [Read more...]
The VA Blogging Tour Goes Down Under
Hi Kathie, This is my first stop “down under†and I am honored to be a guest at your blog. I know I will have a great time visiting all my Australian VA associates during this drive to promote the VA industry and leading up to our Online International Virtual Assistants Convention (OIVAC). So Kathie, what do you have in store for me? 1. How do you know if a VA is brand new or experienced? I have to think deeply about this question. My initial response is: a) If a VA has difficulty … [Read more...]
Ultimate Aussie Blogroll Top 100
A year ago I saw a post on Duncan Riley's blog about the A-list of Australian bloggers and he talked about the lack of Australians in the top 100. He started to mention bloggers he thought could be on that list. I came across the post and made a comment that there were no women on that list but that I planned to be on it. A couple of other women also posted similar comments. Well, this morning I see that Des Walsh has a new post referring to a list of the Top 100 Australian bloggers (on Craig … [Read more...]
VA Blog Hopping Tour Continues
I forgot to add what was happening in week 2 so here are both week 2 and 3 for you to visit. A reminder of what this is all about is included below. As an added twist to this virtual event, Ms. Williams will leave a mystery clue at each stop, as well as a link to the previous stop’s clue. Participants who solve the puzzle at the conclusion of the tour will be eligible for prizes donated by Virtual Assistants and other industry supporting businesses. The Tour starts April 1 — no fooling. … [Read more...]
Growing Your Network Online
Have you been approached to join LinkedIn yet? You most likely have, but like me, knew very little about it, joined and then nothing much happened, except for the occasional email from a stranger asking to connect with you. And so for a year I've just let my membership sit, with less than 50 contacts, from a few people in my own database and the occasional other. But recently I read a post in Des Walsh's blog about LinkedIn that made me sit up and take notice. I had seen a post earlier in the … [Read more...]
