I'm speaking about during the Australian VA Conference (AVAC). You'll need to be a VA attending the AVAC event in Melbourne and therefore, living in Melbourne to accommodate out of town guest VAs. We're buddying up visiting VAs to Melbourne based VA hosts so they can get to and fro the venue and find their way around town, and outside of town. I'll be hosting a VA from the US and am hoping that there will be others coming from outside Australia. I could host a couple of others too and on a 2 … [Read more...]
Have you done your Christmas Cards yet?
There's been discussions on various VA forums about whether or not to send Christmas cards to clients or Christmas emails. It was generally agreed that emails do get lost, filtered out, read later, but a printed card in the post would be read and put on a shelf or on display somewhere for the client to see each day. Some like to get cards designed and printed, others purchase cards from somewhere and handwrite in them. Still more are undecided and as a result, often they just don't get … [Read more...]
Virtual Assistants – Mind Your Language!
I had a conversation recently with someone relating to internet merchant facilities. During the course of the conversation he kept using in-house terminology which didn't really mean much to me at all. I had to remind him, more than once, that he's speaking a language that his industry might understand but the client wouldn't, and I am a client. He apologised and made an effort to use language I would understand. We finally came to an understanding of what I need to do to get something working … [Read more...]

Two Wonderful Web Women meet face-to-face

We'd spoken online before and on the phone but had never met face-to-face until a few weeks ago in Melbourne. Funny really, we've known each other for a few years. So strange to not have met before. Janet had her video recorder with her and we did an impromptu interview so here I am unmade up and in the natural so to speak. Actually there were three of us there that day. Charly … [Read more...]

At this time of year thoughts turn to the new year that's coming. Will we continue doing what we've been doing? Will we do something new? Is now the time to make a change? For many the dream of working at home is still that. A dream. They wonder if it will ever become possible? For some it will. Niche VA – Send Out Cards
Many would have heard of Send Out Cards by now. It's an exceptional online program that allows you to pick or create a greeting card that is then printed on recycled card and posted within a short period of time. The cards are of good quality and there is a gift line available too. Now what has this got to do with being a Virtual Assistant? If you've already been assisting clients with their databases it's a natural addition to the services you have been providing. Have you ever been asked … [Read more...]
Niche VA – Social Media
I thought I'd touch on the various Niches that a Virtual Assistant can work in. Today I want to touch on Social Media - a subject that is very popular in today's business climate. Social Media covers so many things but largely relates to the form of networking you might do for your business and the tools you use for it. Tools can include: Blogs LinkedIn Facebook MySpace Twitter Plurk Gist, and the list goes on. It seems that almost every day there's a new tool being developed to … [Read more...]
