Is your Facebook profile set up in your personal name or your business name? I want to give a warning as two people I know here in Melbourne, Australia, in the past week had their Facebook accounts suspended and they had to prove who they were. One was using a nickname coupled with his real name and the other was using a business name, instead of their personal name. Both had to change their profiles back to their personal names only and had the inconvenience of their accounts inactive for a few days while it was sorted out.
It is very important that you know that profiles are for personal use only (i.e. people are added as friends) and pages are for business use (i.e. people like your page). Don’t run the risk of having your account suspended or closed, simply because you didn’t know or realise you are breaking the terms of service for your account.
Personally I only add people who are close friends or family members to my personal account – everyone else I encourage to like my business pages (yes, I have more than one) and we can chat via discussion groups or my pages. Any business that has a profile set up which requires you to add them as a friend stands to lose a lot of ‘friends’ following them simply because others wouldn’t want their personal messages turning up on timelines that were intended by the owners for business use.
If you are someone who has set up a personal profile instead of a business page, and you want help getting things set up in the right way, why not make contact today for one of our social media management VAs to assist you with your needs?
