Do you use gmail? I do. I love the filtering system and the fact that I can channel more than one email address through my account so I can check ALL email when away from my home or office at any period of time. It’s a great system.
However, I manage several forums online and I’m finding increasingly that more and more spammers are using gmail addresses. No longer can I approve a gmail address without reservation – I need to keep an eye on them, or in some cases ban them outright when they have ridiculous usernames attached.
Pity there isn’t some sort of ‘check’ done on people who want to use this address because so many people use it for business and other purposes – real purposes, rather than making a general nuisance of themselves online.

Funny you should post this today Kathie. I had a discussion going yesterday on my Facebook Profile about exactly this. My spam has increased 15 fold in the past week and I ended up with more than 150 spam emails yesterday! I had it suggested to divert my business email address to gmail where it will filter it. I suspect I can still have emails arrive to Outlook if I configure outlook to receive gmail – is that correct?

Yes, that’s correct. You’ll find instructions at gmail to set it up. I use the pop3 option as imap didn’t work for me. I have several email addresses going through gmail now. Very useful.

Thanks for that Kathie! It’s on my ‘to-do’ list for later today. I use pop3 for all the other emails address, so I will probably do that also. I already have an active Google Account, so it shouldn’t take too much to set up. Enjoy the lovely, sunny Autumn day.

I love Gmail and have been using it for a couple of years. To me it’s so much more convenient that Outlook will ever get. My biz e-mail is forwarded straight to my Gmail. Now, I also configured Gmail so that I don’t have to go to my biz e-mail ([email protected]) to answer the inquiries. Instead, I reply straight from my Gmail now. Luv it, but you’re right – some forums/communities started declining @gmail registrants.

I use Gmail too, and love it’s convenience. One of my clients used to use Outlook, exclusively – and ran into horrible problems with Spam. Now she’s in g-mail, and the spam has been tremendously reduced. It’s not spam free – but when I go in to clean out her email each week, I’m thrilled with how much less pure garbage is there. I’m hoping that as time goes by, it won’t start back up again.
