I’ve been challenged recently to think about what I’m bringing with me from 2006 that I don’t want to have in 2007. Interesting thought. Things like challenging clients, work you don’t enjoy doing, debts that are outstanding, something we keep doing over and over again but know we shouldn’t (bad habits) and so on.
Sometimes life feels like a roundabout – we keep going through the same challenges and struggles in life and we wonder when we’re going to learn the right lesson, so we can get off and travel the highway with everyone else. Have you felt like that? I have.
Don’t get me wrong, I very much enjoy my working life as a Virtual Assistant, I’ve met some wonderful people, had some really interesting work to do, and feel very blessed that I was in a position to join this industry during its birth and watch its development and growth. However, even in that it is easy to get into a ‘rut’, to be doing the same things over and over again, and not always picking up on something that is not good, the first time round. Sometimes we have to experience the same lesson, even if through different people and situations, over and over, till we have truly learnt what it’s all about, before we can move on.
I know the path I’m travelling and am making some changes for this new year, which will mean shedding some clients (the ones that take up a fair bit of time but really give very little return) to make room for those I find more rewarding, and changing the focus on some of the things I’ve been doing casually in the past (like writing, speaking & mentoring) so I can give more to my industry and the people who mean something to me.
I look forward to hearing about your journey also – the Virtual Assistant industry has come a long way in a short time and I know we’re in for some exciting times ahead!
Happy New Year to you all!
